I had a gas 30. It was flathead. A good all around homesteading tractor. The marvel/schebler carb is easy to maintain. If the oil pressure gauge works, when hot the engine should show at least 9lbs pressure, mine had 11 lbs (15lbs new). The manual states under 7 needs work. It should turn over on a complete rev if well tuned (hot). Check for engine clunk on sudden rev, sign of crankshaft wear. Check the oil for water droplets, could be cracked head gasket. Check for clean running no smoking on a steady run but not so much on acceleration. On acceleration it will puff a bit of smoke, but steady out to clear exhaust.

Pull something heavy with it keeping acceleration even. On a load it should pick up power on it's own. This is a sign the governor doesn't need adjustment.

Give the fan a shake, if it wobbles you need
either pump sleeve bearings, or on the older models ball bearings in the pump. (the older model had the grease fitting at the water pump).

Tie a chain around a post and try to pull in first. The shift lever shouldn't jump out of gear, if it does one of the shift rails is worn which isn't unusual and easy to fix.

If you have a 30 and have a 3PH cylinder it's a collector's item. But most didn't and it's a straight puller. I sold mine along with a parts tractor.
