my two cents... Might want to at least make sure that whatever you buy has a real frame, rather than just stamped steel holding it together if you want to push dirt. A hydrostatic transmission is a good thing if you are pushing dirt, or have a snowblower on it. 1/2 acre doesn't justify lots of money in my opinion, so 10-12 HP will probably do the job. I use a Wheelhorse 20 HP for many chores around my farm, and I have yet to be dissapointed, but it is 30A of field and woods. It moves dirt/snow No Problem with a blade, but probably weighs over 1000 pounds with the wheel weights on it. My brother-in-law has a 12 HP wheelhorse (2 A yard) and is real happy with it.
