Decyphering Ford engine serial numbers

Some time ago I had the information to decypher the engine serial numbers and the tractor serial numbers on Ford tractors. I can't seem to locate that information now and have tried in vain to locate it on the web. There's one similar to it at sprinfieldbiz.com but it has limited information. I have a 550-TLB and a MC-L4 forklift with pretty much the same 3 cylinder diesel in them. The 550 is a 1977 model. Would like to know what year the forklift is. Anyone have any idea where to find this information without calling a dealer? Thank you.
