Saturday morning wife and I went to AC & MM show at Homestead, Ia. Stopped at AC end of town first and looked around. Saw a WD with a 33 mounted corn picker on it that I was told came from Ky. One guy had 3 tractors there, D19, D17, D15 all Diesels. there was a WD45 Dual Fuel with a 3 bottom semi-mounted plow ( gas or LP ) . A couple nice lookind D21's. There was a trailer with a miniture pedal driven Gleaner combine and grain head on it, looked great. Lots of tractors and friendly people.
Daughters, Sil and grandson showed up at 11.30 and we went to Ox Yoke Inn for dinner and then we all went back to see parade. Carter ( grandson, 19 mo. ) enjoyed watching all the tractors go by. Sil and I were going up to see MM's and Carter's Mom said it was too hot for him and she needed to go somewhere and cool off, so they went shopping back to Amana while we looked at tractors. Saw a 1935 Twin City MTA with 2 row cultivator on it.I was telling Sil and another guy that I remembered my dad having one of those when I was small( between diapers and 1st grade). He would set me on the tool box facing backwards and wrap my arms around the gearshift and would plow all day. Mom taught school, and when I was with dad, they didn't have to pay a babysitter. The owner came up and started asking me questions and I told him I was only 3 or 4, couldn't remember everything, but we had a nice visit anyway. He invited me down to the show at Mapleton, Ill on Aug 25 & 26. Have to see about going. Started clouding up and some thunder, so we headed back up to AC's, Sil hadn't seen them yet. Started sprinkling and then light rain for a little bit amd then women showed up and we took Carter out to see tractors. He wanted to climb on all of them but was good when we said no, just had to touch all of the tires. Got a picture of Carter and Granddad and Grandma by the pedal combine. Took lots of pictures, would like to show some of them off, but it is SO SLOW downloading them with dialup. Might do a couple and post them later. Had a good time. Chris

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
