Ray, I think you've got it right. No matter how many "pucker factors" close calls, and 4am sweaty nightmares we guys who can punch keys on a computer have had -- it probably doesn't compare to guys like your Dad. My Dad has left us. He was 305th BG, 366th BS, B-17 from Chelveston. Twenty three missions then 7th Luftstalig POW. Now that he's gone, I have the family treasures that tell me his Dad was Rainbow Division in the Argonne, and his great Grand Dad was 101st Indiana from Kennesaw Mtn. to the sea, then up to D.C. I can't imagine what all those guys had to put up with, and maybe you can't imagine the hardship involved in the stories your Dad tells. So maybe the real reason for this day is not to puff up our chests, but to thank our Dads, generations back, for the things they did for us. take care, fellow Hoosier.
