I may be off base here, Does that engine have a low oil cut off, if so you could be border line on the oil level, make sure it is full. I have seen some engines do what your saying and the problem was low oil cut off. The oil drains down allowing it to start then shuts off once the level drops as the oil is on the engine surfaces. I have seen this happen on Onan RV gensets and Miller welders.
