Most of the older farming tractors would work well if it has a three point hitch conversion on it. A Ford 600 series would be nice, or perhaps a newer 2000. If going for a Farmall, I'll second the motion for an 'A', known as a 140 in later life. A John Deere 40, 420 or 430 would work, or a newer 820 (3-cyl) or 1020. Stay away from the 1010, though.... Gas engines are easier to deal with if you're not going to run it often. If you are going to use it a lot, I'd get one of the newer machines with a diesel. The diesel might give you winter starting problems, though. As for snow plowing, the three point hitch will allow you to use a rear blade easily. It'll only plow 5-6 inches, though. More than that, and you'll be needing a front-end loader or a front mounted blade (called a bulldozer, but it's not for digging). If you're going the front blade or loader route, you'll need power steering on whatever you get. Four wheel drive is helpful, too, but you can get along without it. As far as hauling firewood goes, you can skid a log or use a trailer to load cut wood into. Any of the mentioned machines will do that well. I second the motion that a Cub or a Pony will probably be too light-duty for what it sounds like you need to do.
