A might touchy, aren't we? Deere buys tech. They design tech. Whatever it takes to stay out front. No one says they are the best at EVERYTHING. That would be a crazy statement. They are, however, the leader, hands down, in the AG equipment market. Deere has survived becouse of good management, solid business decisions, and "staying one step ahead of the game". When most of us buy a tractor, a combine, or any other piece of equipment, we buy the dealer support, the companies parts support, and the value (re-sale, and dependability) as much as we do the actual "physical" item. Deere has proven to be the best, over the long haul. Agco, Fiat, and all the other "assemblies" of companies are still in the hunt, but based on past performances, who can say what will happen to any of their product lines. For example, Massey Ferguson. There is still a MF tractor. But it's in name only. There is very little to do with the "old" company. With the change, most of the older dealers closed their doors. So much for dealer support. Granted, a good many Deere dealers went away, starting with the 1980's, but there is still a good solid network of dealers in just about every area. I have three Deere dealers within an hour of home. There is one Agco dealer. And they aren't much help. Case/IH, New Holland, and all the rest are just about gone from our area. Maybe we are the exception, rather than the rule. But I hear otherwise from folks in other parts of the country. Before anyone gets the idea that I'm brainwashed, and only can see green, Let me say that I'm not totally sold on everything that Deere does. Not all their products ARE the #1 products in a given catagory. What I am saying is Deere, on the average, is a much better bet to be around to see my tractor through to the end of it's usefull life. I own a couple "Agco" products. (From the days before it was AGCO) I still have to live with the changes that were made within their corperate structure. It hasn't been a pleasant experience for me. Aside from the cost, (And that's a part of all brands) my dealings with Deere have been way ahead of the curve. All I can do,is to judge things from my perspective. Maybe others have different idea's. There must be a reason why Deere is still the leader in market share.

New Hitches For Your Old Tractor - by Chris Pratt. For this article, we are going to make the irrational and unlikely assumption that you purchased an older tractor that is in tip top shape and needs no immediate repairs other than an oil change and a good bath. To the newcomer planning to restore the machine, this means you have everything you need for the moment (something to sit in the shop and just look at for awhile while you read the books). To the newcomer that wants to get out and use the machine for field work, you may have already hit a major roadblock. That is the dreaded "proprietary hitch". With the exception of the
