Cub Cadet 1810 Stalling Out

[ Expand ] [ View Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Return to Forum ]

Posted by STEVE SARTELL on July 23, 2003 at 15:19:42 from (64.135.216.204):

I have a '89 Cub Cadet 1810 with a twin 18 horse Kohler engine. Recently it has started to die out after about 5-10 minutes use. I pulled the plugs and they are white which tells me the engine is running lean. I drained the gas out of the tank without a problem and replaced it with fresh gas thinking I had a bad load of gas...no change. The fuel filter isn't clogged since the tank drained without a problem. What would cause the engine to do this? It starts fine and I sprayed a bunch of carb cleaner down the intake and the engine didn't die and was running fine afterwards. Put it out on the grass for 10 minutes and the engine guns a few times as the governor tries to keep it alive and it dies. Leave it alone for a while and it starts right up but won't run for long. Any ideas before I turn this over to a dealer which I don't want to do?

During idling, the governor has been revving the engine for some time but it always ran fine under full power. Now it dies after a short time.

Thanks for any input.
