If you have worked on gas engines Diesels are about the same. Liners, pistons, rings, bearing sheels and gaskets. They are a little more expensive for parts. On the plus side no carbarator adjustmens to screw with like the gas tractor. Nerver play with the diesel Injector system because odds are you will end up taking it to a shop to get it back right. Look for the cold start, it will come out with lot of white smoke but should clear up in 10 -15 seconds. Black smoke under power, under normal load black smoke should clear up also, when load increases like when you are getting stuck then the smoke really gets black.-- Once you go diesel you will never go back. Thats on a tractor, on a pickup truck it is a different story, you will go back to gas on a truck if you got a GM or Ford diesel.
