That 'end' is the needle part of the main jet adjustment assembly, that's what these instructions say anyway... The side is eroded with some heavy corrosion. I buffed on it some with a nylon pot scrubber, no emory or sandpaper though. All the other parts showed bad wear. The throttle shaft only had one of the 2 rubber seals left.
The pin that the float lever arm is fastened to was badly scored. The screws that held the body of the carb together looked like someone had used a dull knife blade or can opener on them. I filed off the burrs.
The main jet piece has a bad gouge where someone had tried to loosen it with a mismatched screwdriver. The plug that covers the main jet looked like a pair of channelocks where used on it. I got that filed down and it can be removed with a socket now. The venturi looked like an icepick had been poked into it. That took the longest to get looking right. All in all the carb was needing a redo many moons ago. When I bought the tractor the guy said he had just rebuilt the carb. Man, I hope he is just a bad liar and not a mechanic... whew, what a mess.
