Not so Gene,when you add a battery powered coil it is no longer a mag,it is a distributor. A magnito uses magnets to create the magnet field which is colapsed when the points CLOSE. When you add a battery powered coil,you are using battery voltage to create the magnetic field in the coil which colapses when the points OPEN . It is a totally different operating system. Contact dwell from point closing to point opening is about 30-50 degrees and will change the timing by that much when changing it from a magneto to a distributor system. How are you going to change the timing? you move the drive gear and slotted case mounting ears so the points open at tdc instead of closing like they did when the mag was in operation.
