I had a 73 Series III Land Rover with 88 inch wheel base, great machine, geared real low. Towed a 35 foot house trailer about 25 miles with it. It did suprisingly well, made sure the brakes worked expremely well, and hitch weight of around 500 pounds. I also pulled a 2 horse trailer, with 2 horses quite a few time, and it handled it better than expected. Even though I did it, you have to be careful of the short wheel base and not letting the trailer push you. I also had a Series II with 109 inch wheel base, the longer wheel base made pulling the horse trailer more enjoyable. On both I could have used more horsepower. Solved the problem with the Series III, I swapped in a Ford 302. Good luck.
