sem·i·trail·er [ sémmee tràylr, sémm tràylr ] (plural sem·i·trail·ers) noun 1. trailer without front wheels: a large rectangular vehicle with wheels only at the rear and a hitch at the front that attaches to a tractor or other towing vehicle 2. tractor with semitrailer: a tractor with an attached semitrailer I suspect that a semi- tractor is referred to as a semi because it is not complete without a trailer of some kind.....
