I asked this question over on the JD forum here at YT but so far nobody has come up with an answer. In the last Antique Power magazine there was an auction sale advertised for last week in Booker, Texas where the Dan Sell Homestead Museum was selling off all their tractors, equipment, and collectable vehicles, etc. In the ad there was listed a 1939 JD model D s/n 151210 and it was in BOLD type in the ad along with other very special or rare tractors (like A MM UDLX, etc). Anybody out there know why this particular tractor was highlighted in the ad as being pretty special? A funny thing is that although it was listed as a 1939 in the ad, that serial number shows up as a 1941 in the JD serial number lists. Very strange I'd say but there's gotta be a reason.
