Are you happy with the deal you got on that used tractor?....

.... Did the pre-test or trial drive show up
all the problems or did they show up after you got it home.? Was it worth the price? What's your mechanical experience in tractors?

I bought a used 1968 IH and did the complete test, had someone ride the hydaulics, checked out the engine, checked out the clutch, but when I got it home the hydraulics were jerky, and I figure because the load wasn't heavy enough. It only showed when I put on the snowblower which is made of steel plate.

The clutch took time to release the gears and was fortunate to know a mechanic who knew how to adjust the clutch adjusting bolts. I was panicking of course, but he said the clutch was practicaly new, but the installer forgot to adjust them. He didn't want to tackle the hydraulics.

I'm convinced now after my third used tractor that there is a lot of luck involved if you don't do an extensive test. I mean have it taken home and make it go thru the real trials. Of course the seller won't let you rent it out for a week.

Oh well, I take nothing for credit and just say I was lucky. It could be worse, the hydr could be enclosed in the transmission, but I know I don't need a tear down, or my clutch could be distorted, but is OK.
