In MY opinion its an individual choice. With a well maintained working tractor, restoration goes hand in hand with maintenance. When some part or piece starts failing/wearing it gets replaced/repaired as part of routine.Cosmetics are very important to some folks, but to others less so.For instance, your car/truck,picks up a parking lot"injury"..some folks immediately head for the body shop..others just live with it.A tractor will pick up ding/dents/scratches as part of it's life so it's an ongoing battle.I like my stuff to look nice/well cared for,so I keep it clean, don't abuse it and do my best to maintain it both mechanically and cosmeticlly, but don't get a new paint job for every little injury. When a vehicle reachs MY personal"limit"as to wear or damage it is either repaired or replaced.
I'm not real impressed by the "trailer queen" tractors at shows and such. The ones that live their new life in a heated garage, doing nothing, except going to shows and being pretty. To me that'd be like having a cow that don't give milk.Tractor oughta be ready, willin and able to work or it's just like one of the Corvettes in the auto trader books, always for sale, and serving only as another toy,for the next feller w/more money than sense.
"But thats just MY opinion, and I could be wrong"
