I read your link. It didn't say Slick 50 didn't work, it says they misrepesented it. They lied by saying engines are starting "dry" with out that treatment. That's a lie because there's an oil film in there too. Of course they made other mis leading claims too.
I put slick 50 in an engine many years ago. Everyone said that "model" of engine was junk from the day i bought it. All i heard is how they don't hold up. I sometimes still hear it yet today. I pulled the guts out of this truck, hauling huge loads to Alaska and back! Not to mention all around my farm. My engine now has 198,000 + miles on it, and hasn't been opened up, not even the valve covers have been off. Was it the Slick 50???
I doupt that Slick 50 is the only reason it's still running just fine, but i did read an independent study that tested several treatments. They didn't know what ones they were testing, and Slick 50 came out on top. It did most of the things the adds claimed, but NOT by the amount the makers said it would. I guess you could claim false advertiseing right there. Anyway, the lab found the number one area it helped the most, was when "cold starting" the engine. They found it did reduce wear at start up. (I forget what gas V8's they tested it in)
I only bought Slick 50 that one time, and i can't really tell you how much good it did for my engine, but that happens to be the engine that is holding up well for me.
BTW, the engine is a Chevy 6.2L diesel.
Robert
