I too hate to see an old tractor parted out but I also recognize that one parts tractor can keep half a dozen good machines alive. Kind of like the organ donors in the human world.
I was out at a big salvage yard in Kokato MN last summer and as I walked through row after row of JDs, MMs, Cases, Allis, Farmalls all upended, half missing, sinking in the ground rusting, etc I found it kind of erie and sad. If they could talk I'll bet they could tell a lot of stories. Men working them, fixing them, feeding the world with them, families scrimping to get one,
kids hanging on them or riding with dads and grand dads, dealers making a living off of them, manufacturers proud of their newest models, and on and on.
Now they're just piles of castings and tin and gears and moldy rubber and lots and lots of rust.
Kind of made me want to gather up some of those old hulks and build some kind of a shrine.
Kind of a bittersweet day. Because I was real glad to find the parts that I was looking for. Off an N that I knew would never run again.
