On Gasoline engines, I use a shaft ground on one end to fit in the oil pump and the other to chuck in an electric drill. Pull the distributor, insert the rod into the oil pump and run the pump with the drill. This will prime the pump and get the oil where you need it..before you turn over the engine. Put the distributor back in and start the engine...oil pressure should come up immediatly..I don't know if it really matters much if the oil is non detergent or not....
