A way to tell if there is frozen water in the oil is to remove the oil fill plug on the side of the transmission, and if oil runs out it might have ice under the oil, water is heavier. It will rains the level of the oil above the fill hole. If you can't get the starter off, it might help to tap on the starter near where it bolts to the bell housing. Does the starter seem like it is trying to work? Do you have the tractor outside? Something to watch out for on those Farmalls, don't pull them from the front bolster, you can snap the bolster off from where it bolts to the engine. You can see a lot of those with parts brazed back on, and I watched someone do it. I'd come check, too, but I'm in Michigan, and have arthritis, too.
