One of the places you need to look for is the timing. You set itby losening a screw on the left side (tractor left) of the distributor and moving it. DO NOT DO THIS WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. YOU MIGHT BE TRYING THAT BIG TOOTHPICK 9SCREWDRIVER0 OUT OF YOUR TEETH. If you cannot get the timing advanced enough this way, I have found the slot in the front of the camshaft to be worn. The proper correction to a purist is to replace the camshaft. The rest of us make certain thefront of the distributor that holds the rotor is pressed back to hold the rot slack. Then, you can leave the gasket off the back of the distributor and seal it with silicone. That will get you by, at least to confirnm that is the problem. You also check the centrigal advance to makecertain something isn't broken.
