Most fire engines pump in the highest transmission gear trough a transfer case. That would make the gear ratio pretty close to 1:1 from there it was throttled up or down depending on pressure and volume demands. I would think 1200-1800 rpms. put a pressure gauge on it and go by that. A lot of old fire engines had too small of radiator and had a seperate line that ran water from the pump through the water jacket or through a header that antifreeze lines went through; the first setup would pump the antifreeze out the hose. If your fire company is looking for a pump for utility work I have a fairbanks-morse 775 gpm irrigation pump for sale, asking $250. your 6cyl would power it well.
