On engines with more than one filter, a mechanic told us to not change the final filter unless you were doing engine, pump, etc, work or you thought the tractor was not up to power after changing the primary filter which could be changed more regularly. The idea was to lessen the chance of getting some contamination to the pump or injectors when changing both filters. I think how clean the fuel going in to the tractor tanks determines the filter life. We can go for years without touching them and some neighbors change every couple months because they are plugged and the tractor has no power. The point about air is well taken. Bleeding the air out should be done to lessen the chance of loss of pump lubrication. Draining water traps in the tank also stops some corrosion.
