If you never over load and burn the fluid, change the filter and clean the pan ...the fluid will run over 100,000 mlies.Have done this on a fleet of Ford trucks in the last 35 years....The newer over drive trannys had a problem....it was fixed when Ford put a support bearing, on the main shaft about 7 - 8 years ago.....My guess is you have one of the pre-bearing trannys....We have tried them all....over all Ford makes the best truck...the best used to be IHC......Don't make the small ones any more.....
