Beading a tubless tyre

Hi Guys Had real difficulty inflating a tubless front tyre the other day, just couldnt get it to seat. Eventually managed with three tie straps and one of those canisters that blast lots of air in one go. Anyway I have just been told you guys inflate these by spraying a little ether then igniting it when doing field repairs. Is this for real or is someone having a laugh with me. Thanks Bill
