An easier way that is used a lot on loader tractors is to find a muffler with a side inlet. Most of the swathers from various companies that used Wisconsin air cooled engines had this type of muffler.The muffler laid flat above the hood with the outlet pointing forward. Is only about 6 inches tall and fits with no mods.
