The oil usage that starts when one pulls the head is caused by the distortion of the block and cylinder walls when the head is torqued back down. Those parts have been wearing as an assembly for 120k+ miles. Now you go in there and change the relationship when you torque the head down. The relationships are not going to be exactly the same and you have the chance for oil getting by the rings one way and blowby of combustion gasses going the other way. If I had the head off I would at least clean the head up, lap the valves, check guide wear and install new seals. Most engines have their own little quirky things that go wrong. Why not search for a forum for the brand you have. ray
