Its not just the ladies that find it a strange interest! My work colleagues also can't quite get it. But then they're all city dwellers and so don't know any better. However my wife, who is a farmer's daughter, does tolerate my hobby of tractor restoration and even finds it in herself to take a dutiful interest when asked to marvel at some rusty metal part I've been doing something with. I do have to be careful not to overdo the time spent with the trcator rather than her though. Here in the UK we have a network of rural clubs called "Young Farmers Clubs". (which a lot of members aren't.) Its a very fine dating agency and an interest in tractors and machinery is not regarded as unusual UNLESS one prefers spending the night with a tractor rather than a woman. (I suppose that choice does rather depend on the nature of the woman though!) I think what I'm saying is that each has its place but you may be hard pressed getting the two to mix together well.
