My dad and I have had 6 between us. First was a '91 4x4 with a v-6. Had V-8's, automatics and 5 speeds, all 4x4's. Currently have an '00 and an '02. Both v-6 4x4's 1 auto, 1- 5 speed. Both get good mileage, about 17 highway for the auto and 20 for the 5 speed. General "everyday" driving about 17 in the 5 speed and 15 in the auto but drive the 5 speed a lot harder. Pull trailers, etc. I've put a 4 ton load of fertilizer behind the 5 speed ones many many times. Get about 180,000 on the 5 speeds and 145,000 or so on the autos. Like I said we use them hard. I've got an 02 Ram with a Cummins and if I was bold enough to put a gooseneck ball in the Dakota I would sell the Ram and just run the Dakotas (I think they would pull it, but afraid I couldn't stop it). The Dakotas will go anywhere, the Ram will get stuck off road in a puddle.
