I HAVE A 450 IH FARMALL 4 CYLINDER I PUT A NEW SET OF POINTS IN THE DISTRIBUTOR. THE DISTRIBUTOR WAS BOLTED DOWN TIGHT. WHEN I CRANKED ENGINE THE ENTIRE DISTRIBUTOR TURNED I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY REVOLUTIONS BUT ENOUGH TO TWIST THE PLUG WIRES LIKE TWINE. I FOUND THE PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THAT,THE SHAFT THAT GOES THROUGH THE DISTRIBUTOR THAT YOU SNAP YOUR ROTOR TO FROOZE UP, I WAS ABLE TO FREE IT WD 40 AND LUBE. HOWEVER MY PROBLEM IS THE DISTRIBUTOR NEVER CAME OUT OF THE GEARS BECAUSE THE LOCK DOWN BOLT WAS STILL LOCKED ON THE DISTRIBUTOR HOWEVER THE TIMING IS OUT 180 DEGREES. THE FIRING ORDER IS 1-3-4-2 HELP ME MAYBE I'M LOOSING MY MEMORY. I HAVE WORKED ON THIS TRACTOR MANY YEARS BUT THIS ONE HAS MY HEAD UNDER THE TABLE. FIRST LET'S START WITH THE FIRING ORDER NO. 1 PLUG IS IN FRONT AT THE FAN 3 IS THE 3rd PLUG BACK FROM THE FAN 4 IS AT THE BACK OF THE ENGINE AND 2 IS IS THE 2nd PLUG BEHIND THE FAN BLADE. PLEASECORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG. I KNOW THE PLUG FIRING ORDER HAS TO BE OORRECT I WAS ALWAY'S TAUGHT TOTAKE NO 1 SPARKPLUG OUT AND CRANK THE ENGINE UNTILL YOU FELT A COMPRESSION WHICH MEANS BOTH VALVES ARE CLOSED AND READY TO FIRE AND THEN TAKE THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP OFF AND SEE IF THE ROTOR WAS POINTING TO THE NO. ONE WIRE WHICH IS NOT HAPPENING. WHERE AM I GOING WRONG? THE MAIN TIMING BELT IS LESS THAN 3 MONTHS OLD. HELP! AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE. KEN
