To use your 12 volt charger and not have it blow a gasket, you need to have some additional resistance in the charging circuit. To drop 4 volts (12-8) at 2 amps requires a 2 ohm resistor (4V/2A) with a wattage rating of 8 watts (4Vx2A) or better. Radio Shack item 271-131 is a package of 2, 1 ohm 10 watt resistors for about 2 bucks taxes and all. Put both resistors in series with each other and your 8 volt battery. Connect to the 12 volt setting on your charger. If your 8 volt is real dead it will take a while and may not even appear to be charging for some time. Just one of the 1 ohm resistors in series will let more current through but if the current exceeds 3.33 amps the resistor will be operating at it wattage rating and may have a some what shorter life. If you cannot get the resistors, post again and I will have some other ideas that might work. We all understand to charge a 12.6 volt battery takes over 13.5 volts just as we need over 9.5 to charge a 8 volt (really an 8.4V)battery. The difference is the same, namely 4 volts.
