Sounds like you had quite the Gramps! The old iron connection between generations is misunderstood by many. My Mom had a hard time understanding the fond feelings my Dad had toward the ’41 "B", which Grandpa bought new. In 1989, almost 25 years after "The B" was sold at auction, my brothers crafted a plan to bring the unrecognizable form back home. I was fortunate to be a part of the secret restoration and will never forget the expression on our parent’s faces when they were presented the shining beauty at Christmas time. Mom finally recognized how important this tractor was to Dad. Grandpa had passed away several years before at 94, and "The B" became a tangible connection to him for our whole family. Now, young people, who never knew their great grandpa, can see and drive something he purchased to make farming a little easier for his sons. The reminiscing that goes along with these encounters should be recorded for posterity. Dad drives "The B" in parades, plows at field days and enjoys telling stories about their early experiences farming with horses, both flesh and iron. You see, Grandpa was a horse man and rarely drove anything but the flesh kind in those early days. For all practical purposes, he may never have operated the tractor that now has so much meaning to his offspring. If Grandpa could only see us now!
