Dav, I have a '95 3500HD with an 8' dump bed. A gooseneck would work fine with your truck as the extra length is in the frame forward of the rear axle and has the same distance from rear axle to rear frame. My dump bed has a GN hitch well and when I haul a trailer I have pins that lock the front of the bed to the frame. You could also have the GN hitch mounted directly to the frame and just put a door in the bed to set the trailer hitch through. I found some 16' aluminum ramps that work well to load a tractor on the back without a dock. I am limited to small tractors (JD320 & Ls, A/C G, etc) because of the 8' bed (which may be a blessing in disguise). KX is right, the bed height plus much weight on that high a center of gravity will cause you problems. Pinning the dump bed down will solve your tipping problems with loading or pulling a GN. BE CAREFUL - the weight and center of gravity that everyone has mentioned is a VERY REAL CONCERN, but there are many rollback wreckers out there that use the long frame 3500HD truck. Good Luck!
