Several good ideas have already been mentioned, so I'll throw my two cents in. If it's going to sit for quite some time, you'll want to block it up to keep the tires out of contact with the floor, be it concrete or dirt. This prevents flat-spotting the tires and preserves the rubber. If you're going to cover it, use a tarp or some other cover that can "breathe", rather than plastic. Plastic will prevent moisture from condensation from being able to get away from the tractor, which is worse than it not being covered at all. I would also clean and paint any bare-metal areas on the tractor to prevent corrosion. Cover the intake and exhaust to prevent animals from finding a home in your engine. I don't know what kind of tractor you have, but if you can, get a hold of an operator's manual for an older John Deere, be it two-cylinder or New Generation, as they have excellent instructions for putting a tractor into storage, and they would apply well to any color tractor.

A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
