Rick...I bought my first tractor this past spring as a working tractor, not to restore, but my budget led me to an older tractor, so working on it comes with the deal. I only have about 4 acres, and when I couldn't resist an MF35 diesel (about 38 hp), I thought I'd bought way more tractor than I need - turned out to not be so, and my friends with 8N and other less powerful tractors are envious, and I'm really happy with it. My land is not hilly enough anywhere other than the edges of the lawn to worry about stability as long as I don't get reckless - even for me who is very nervous about stability - but when I've worked around the edges of the lawn, it still feels pretty stable. The MF35s are pretty common and seem to me to be a great solution for people like you and I. Parts seem to be easy to come by. Mine's a 1964 model, but I guess they were built over a period of several years until they transitioned to the 135 sometime in the mid-60s (I think). Incidentally, the 135s also seem like a good alternative for a slightly newer tractor that's pretty similar.

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
