Yes and No on the "it's done all the time" comment! If you go to a consignment auction, on the auctioneer's own lot, where the auctioneer also runs a used tractor and implement lot, the YES. the auctioneer is probably bidding against you, on his own equipment.

On the other hand, if it is a farm closeout auction, and the auctioneer does NOT sell machinery on the side. and isn't trying to get used machinery to sell himself, later, for a gauranteed profit to the auctioneer, then you may be able to get the peice at it's real price. You may also be bidding against a family member who always wanted the item, expected to get his chance at the probate court, but was "screwed" by his unpleasant, greedy relatives, and that is his only chance to keep "granddad's" tractor.

Shill bidding, done to artificially run the price up, is illegal in many places. Ebay is full of shills. It is NOT alright, it is dishonest, and many crooked sellers do do this. People who report the "SHILLS" should be praised, and not subjected to criticism. A crook is a crook, and the more an honest buyer can be informed about them, the better.

As regards to the SHILL seller in Illinois, he's been reported as having the same tractor listed on multiple auction sites simultaneously many more times than ONCE, that is for sure.

His dad was a hard-working farmer and the children worked hard everyday to help ends meet. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership, ... [Read Article]
