Sigh, old wives stales die hard and new ideas are difficult to accept, especially if they cost something. Sad to say the general public is often poorly informed on important topics. Also, "an ounce of prevention etc". Still can't get some peole to install smoke detectors in the house or wear seat belts in vehicles.
The insurance company discount will pay for much of the theft and fire system by the way.
1st of all when the fire dept is far away and short of water that's when an early warning is required. That why the ionizing detector zones are to be used when the equipment is parked. They detect smoldering BEFORE flame starts. Why not put out a small fire instead of loosing everything?
The rate of rise heat detect are to provide some protection during equipment usage without false alarms.
The sprinkler is vital and no all the heads do not go off at once and require hundreds or thousands of gallons per minute. A modest centrifugal well pump in good repair will supply the one head over the fire.
The sprinkler system will be in service during the spring, summer and fall when equipment usage is highest. During the winter when batteries are removed, equipment sitting stone cold and the hay well past it's prime heating after mowing, the main sources of ignition are gone.
