The weak link in the Dodge drivetrain may be the automatic. There are things you can do - either before or after failure. If you're going to haul a heavy load frequently, be proactive and raise the fluid pressure a bit on the TQ. That will help stop slipping. If it is already slipping, change it out for an after market that is a lot beefier. Or if you have trashed the transmission - replace the whole thing with an aftermarket. Yes, Dodge has cut a few corners like everybody else to stay competitive - I didn't get fender liners in the rear, or sound insulation under the hood to stifle the diesel, but if you recognize the shortcomings and deal with it, it's easier on the blood pressure. The engine is really strong and will last a lifetime and is upgradable for tons more power. The cab is big and comfortable. And I bought it so I can haul a 3+ ton tractor around.
