Merlins ,do I know about Merlins? What do you wanna know? They were a masterpiece of technology-developing more HP out of less CID (1650) than the Allison 1710's.Of course the 1710's were never really fitted out with the Turbosupercharger/supercharger induction system like they could have been. But that's a whole other story!
As far as water "injection" goes-I realize that the tractor systems were crude,they were used in the early tractors and in no way come close to resembling the complex systems of WWII.
But,the principle is the same,slow down propagation and allow either the use of poor grades of fuel or a boost in power using better fuels(115/145 octane).I was just trying to state that water vapor does not add power from Hydrogen molecules! Rather the vapor DISPLACES the air in the ratio. An example is that on a humid day the air is Less fense so aircraft have to make a longer takeoff run,as compared to a Less humid day when the air is more dense the aircraft don't need as much runway to takeoff. Good luck with that Allison!! 8^)
