Steve..........What a very generous FIL. Get it on a flatbed (by getting it home, you're not under a 1 month deadline to get it running) and haul it away before he changes his mind. And give him a small token of appreciation for legal purposes. (trust me, insist he take it, make somesort of EXCUSE, like lawyer said, or accountant said, or insurance said, or state licenses said, or state taxes said, or heck Dell said)

After 3 yrs your gas is bad and will have probably gummed up the mechanical fuel injection. Drain and be prepared for gnashing of teeth and wailling of dispare of ever getting it to run, (you will, just perserve)

Change engine oil and filter. Take sparkplugs out. Put some Marvel Mystery Oil (tablespoon or so, not critical) MMO will help "un-stuck" your piston rings and provide a better compression seal for eazier startup. MMO is one of the few additives that work IMHO.

DON'T PUT SPARKIES IN YET.......with a new battery (don't even mucka round with old battery, not worthitt), crank'er over until you have oilpressure if metered, if not, NO MORE than 1 minute of cranking. Italian Women may be HOT, but Italian starters don't like hot. (grin)

NOW PUT NEW SPARKIES IN, (don't mucka round with old sparkies, ain't worthitt) Now witha whiff of ether quickstart, in the airfilters, try and start it, if'n it don't kauff on ether innna 15 secs, better findout if'n yer sparkies are sparkin? If'n yer really lucky, your fuel injectors work and it'll run and ya donna have any water leaks. Now change your anti-freeze.

Other things that will need attention to: new brake fluid (it does go bad just setting), maybe new disc brake pads (don't worry about rusty discs), high performance rubber tires rotted?

Give the ol'Masser a wash and wax job and send gracious thankyou picture to FIL............Dell, who also reminds you get a manual before you get in over your head.

Today's Featured Article - The Engine Rebuild Kit - by Curtis Von Fange. I always liked engine rebuild kits. They have all the replacement parts for overhauling an engine without going to the store to get gaskets, special measuring tools, or miscellaneous parts. They come neatly packaged, clean and tidy. But it's important not to let that packaging lull you into a false sense of security. The appearance of matching sleeves, pistons, rings, and bearings can cause frustration and agony if not properly measured and installed in a workshop environment. Following c ... [Read Article]
