Connect them all up in series with the single action spool last. If you don't the loader won't come down if another valve is actuated, it will actuall rise as if your pulled the leaver to lift it.

It will work fine as long as you connect them so the pump pushes oil to the input side of the valves. Pump pressure to input side of first spool valve, first valve output to second spool valve input, second valve output to oil tank – you can hook up as many spool valves as you like.

The type of valve used in your application is called an “open center” spool valve which means that their is no restriction when your not moving the levers. You could blow in them and the wind would come out the other side.

Open center valves can, I repeat CAN be stacked in series. What has been described here is something different, used most likely for a specialized application and not a true open center valve.

The bodies are just as heavy on the output side as on the input (pressure) side. The built in pressure relief dumps the excess pressure to the output side of the valve and dose not act like a check valve. As long as all the relief valves are set correctly you’ll be fine and won’t damage the system.

Pump protection will come from each valves built in pressure relief valve the valve being actuated will protect the pump. If you want more protection you can connect a pressure relief valve just after the pump, but i don’t think it is necessary.

Also, most valves are designed to be used as single or double action valves. To convert you simply block (plug) one of the working ports.
