I have a neighbor that does the same thing. He owns 60 acres, has cows etc but borrows a tractor from an old widow that lives close. He and his sons abuse this machine, I have seen the kids with a bale on the back popping wheelies, they don't maintain it or service it. I couldn't name all the very noticeable disrepair it is in, I notice more each time I see the machine. And it could have been a valuable tractor. The old ladies husband bought it new and unfortunately didn't live much longer. I see that as having no self respect to be able to do that and take advantage of others. I have lots of tractors but I have made up my mind when they finally break the old ladies tractor and they come to me, my firm answer will be, No, I don't lend out tractors. I will come do anything I can for you but I am not lending a tractor. and I will do anything I can for him. It is a shame that people are taking advantage of your good nature. The fact of the expense and repair time is enough but the lawsuit possibility is icing on the cake. You just HAVE to say No.
