I bought a Mahindra 350 at the end of last summer and have used it to mow, rake, plow, disk, seed, cultivate,etc. on our 16 acre farm in Comfort, TX. In fact, I just got off it after putting in 8 acres of cowpeas. It's a steady, reliable, inexpensive, sturdy compact tractor. Downside: It's not a giant tractor, so its implements are smaller (5' bush hog, 5 shank chisel plow), which means that some jobs take longer. Upside: Maintenance is easy, parts available, and the direct injection is real nice. Like you, I looked at a lot of bigger, used ones that would've cost a lot of money. You can sure go broke fast buying tractors. Not the Mahindra. This one we'll pay off in a year and a half, and it'll still be new. On the other hand, if mowing is all you're really going to do, an 8/9N and shredder would be cheaper still. If you spend less money, your wife is happier (I've noticed that
