Dell, When you move the resistor to the high side of the coil, you don't change the RC time constant. The current still has to go through the resistor. If the resistor is between the battery and the coil, the current path (with the points open) is battery->resistor->coil->condensor->ground->battery. If you move the resistor between the coil and the distributor, the path is battery->coil->resistor->condensor->ground->battery. In either case, the "R" in RC is the sum of the resistance of the primary field and the resistor, plus any bad connections. When the points open, the current going through the coil has to find another path, and that path is the condensor. The rest of the path is unchanged when the points open. Best regards, mark

Field Modifications (Sins of the Farmer) - by Staff. Picture a new Chevrolet driving down the street without it's grill, right fender and trunk lid. Imagine a crude hole made in the hood to accommodate a new taller air cleaner, the fender wells cut away to make way for larger tires, and half of a sliding glass door used to replace the windshield. Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a
