I used to do that. Now that I am getting older, I relize my time is the most precious thing I got. So if I want to restore an antique something for fun, I do it, but if I need something to work, I get it ready to go. If you figure your time is worth say 20 or 30 bucks an hour "under the table", then if you aren't doing it for fun, then it doesn't take long to realize you aren't saving money. Think of all the ruined marriages, neglected kids, etc. just cuz somebody was trying to save a couple of bucks. Of course this is all easier now cuz I have the money, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have been more productive, and I'd of had more money sooner. Concentrate on what actually makes you money, not dreams, if money is what you are in it for. I got a neighbor who is building a house. He bought an old backhoe, and "saved" a lot by buyng a junker for 1000. spent the whole summer rebuilding the engine, fixing all the hydraulics, etc. his point is that it will be fixed right and he will have it for the rest of his life. Of coures hi house is still a dream, and his kids are three to a bedroom. Another neighbor went out and bought a nice machine for $8000. Got right to work, finished up, and sold it for the same as he bought it for. Who's smarter....depends on your perspective. If running old stuff around was really profitable, then all the successful modern farmers/truckers/construction companies, etc. would all be running old stuff. Unfortunately....it's all about management. Your milage may vary. Take Care Steve

I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction,
