A couple of thoughts. JWC is on the mark about a wide front, though even with that you'll need to be careful on hills. You also mentioned loading your tires, and certainly for grading and so on, that's advisable. The extra weight will he handy with loader work, as well. But you'll need to be VERY careful if you plan on dragging/skidding logs. They have a nasty habit of fetching up on rocks or just digging into the ground. If you're not hitched up right, and you have too much weight on the right surface, you can roll the tractor right back over--the worst kind of rollover, and it happens fast. Less weight=less traction and with less weight you've got a chance of the wheels slipping if your load stops dead. Too much traction=no slip and the tractor will climb right up on its gears and flip. For the variety of things you want to do, I agree with most of the folks that a farm tractor will do what you want better than a compact. It will breathe easy on the lighter work and it'll roar beautifully under a good load but, of the uses you have in mind, skidding is the most dangerous. Don't be afraid of it, but use your head and do a little studying on how to do things right and to be aware of the dangers. Not too many things more fun or more satisfying than working with a good machine. Good luck! Scotty
