The design of the manifold on the Regular with the exhaust going down and then out the side was to help heat be retained to run kerosene.If you kill the engine, it hold the heat so you can get it restarted easier. They were still learning when they made those and later redesigned the way the heat wrapped around the intake side. I have an F-12 and it has an NOS IH exhaust pipe on it, worst design I have ever seen! It just barely goes above the hood and has no muffler and goes only about one foot out of the manifold. You get blasted in the face with exhaust and your ears ring when you get off it at the end of the day.
