Big problem gas in crank case

I posted a message 2 days ago about not getting enough gas. The motor would run for 30 seconds then die. Had it in the shed and started it, did the same thing but I noticed gas coming out of the crank case (where you add oil) called my mechanic and he said rings are bad mabee broken piston. Anywhere from 800.00 to 1500.00. called the dealer I bought it from 2 weeks ago and asked him what he was going to do to make it right and he said it was probably somthing with the carberator. Bring it to him and he would work on it. If it is something simple cool....... but I dont want a quick fix I want it done right I need some feed back thank you Kile
