This is a question in which every answer is going to be a opinion, that is because no one holds the true answer to this question. I will give you my opinion and I am sure some will agree and some will disagree. I too have a Farmall H, 1949. I run lead substitue in my gas. I bought a bottle last winter at Wal-mart for $4.99 it treats 500 gallon of gas. That is a lot of gas to run through a H since they are pretty gas concious. In my opinon the tractors were designed to have lead in the gas for valve lubrication so why not use now in it what it was designed to run. Some will say you don't pull the motor hard enough to need it, but myself I plow, bushog, disc, tractor pulls, and so forth and so on. I feel that $5.00 is cheap insurance against a new valve job. Not saying you will never have to have new valves, but it will cut down on the wear. You can do what you feel necessary, but I feel more comfortable knowing that the lead is in there. I have had a stuck valve and had to replace them on a Cub because of unleaded gas ran in it. So I am now a believer in the substitue. Hope this answers a your question and does not confuse you even more. Bill {Antique Acres}
